From the Manse

Letter from the Manse - June 2016

Dear Friends,

The last time I wrote to you I was talking about our successful Local Church Review report and our mission plans for this year, and now with summer almost upon us it’s time to start planning for further mission. God’s work never stops, because we worship a God who is always in the process of building up His people and His church. This September will mark my second anniversary with you, and we have spent the twenty months building relationships with each other and with those outside Thornliebank, and our efforts have been fruitful. Last year we welcomed fourteen new members, and this year we have seen eight people join our church, God is rewarding our work in a real way.

Summer is a time to take a rest and perhaps take stock of where we are, and to listen for God to discover where He wants us to be. We have our Holiday Club starting on Monday, 8th of August and running from 6.30pm to 8.00pm until Friday of that week. Thursday, 21st of September will see the beginning of our Autumn Alpha Course which will run until November, and we are exploring the possibility of a monthly Messy Church event with the intention of encouraging families to join us. We will also be conducting a survey aimed at why men don’t come to church, and what would attract them to Thornliebank, and we will make a concentrated effort to attract more men to our church. So there is plenty of activity planned for the second half of the year.

My sincere thanks go to the many people who have worked hard to build Thornliebank Church up over the past years, and I have appreciated your help and support. I believe our success is because we work in partnership with each other and with God at our centre.

But for now, let us take the opportunity that summer brings to rest and review where we are, and consider becoming involved in our late summer and autumn mission plans. We know God will be with us because He has promised: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11) Please pray for our mission initiatives, and if you need prayer or a chat; please speak to me.

With blessings and best wishes,

- Mike Gargrave
